National Clinical Guideline 22: Self-Assessment Audit Tool
NCG No. 22 ‘Nutrition screening and use of oral nutrition support for adults in the acute care setting’ was developed to improve patient care through the prevention and effective treatment of disease-related malnutrition in acutely ill adults in Irish hospitals.
To support implementation across hospitals nationally, the new, excel based ‘NCG No. 22 Self-Assessment Audit Tool’ can be accessed online by clicking the link below.
The audit tool has been designed to display all the analytics on a dashboard as the data is inputted, which can then be viewed by a locally agreed Hospital Audit Team and by the Hospital Nutrition and Hydration Steering Committees. It was developed by a multidisciplinary team led by Carmel O Hanlon, and has been piloted by guideline group members to make it as practical and relevant to everyday practice as possible.
The tool aims to make the implementation of guideline recommendations easier for hospitals, capturing the key requirements relating to nutrition screening for malnutrition risk as well as use of oral nutrition support within your hospital population. As audits should be completed six monthly, the tool allows for comparison of the latest audit results with previous findings, so that progress can be viewed over time and/or areas for action identified at a glance.
The tool is a support tool for clinical audit based on the NCG. It is not NCEC guidance. It is published alongside the NCG No 22 and supporting documents, and is only available at: https://www.gov.ie/en/collection/bf15f5-nutrition-screening-and-use-of-oral-nutrition-support-for-adults-in-/
