Carmel O’Hanlon

  • Over 30years experience as a dietitian in acute care, and is a Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Beaumont Hospital, working in nutrition support in the Intensive Care setting.
  • Member of the Critical Care Programme Advisory Group.
  • HSCP representative on the Critical Care Information System Programme Board.
  • Board member of IrSPEN and an Honorary member of INDI.
  • Was Project Lead for NCEC NCG No 22 on ‘Nutrition screening and use of oral nutrition support for adults in the acute care setting’.

Dr. Cara Dunne

• Dr Cara Dunne graduated with an honors degree in Biochemistry from UCD in 1996 and went on to study medicine in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and graduated with honors in 2004.
• She did her early training in Beaumont hospital and through the gastroenterology Spr training scheme went on to work in Beaumont, St Vincent’s, St James’s and the Mater.
• She was awarded her PhD by NUI in 2013 in “Mitochondrial Instability in Stage II Colorectal Cancer Functional Validation of Prognostic markers Involved in Early Staged Colorectal Cancer”
• Since 2017 she has worked as a consultant gastroenterologist at St James’s. Since 2019 she joint appointed to Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin and St James’s Hospital to develop a transition and adolescent program for young people with chronic intestinal failure on home parenteral nutrition and patients with IBD.  Her research interests are inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns Disease) and complex nutrition. She is a member of the ISG, ECCO and ESPEN and a director of IrSPEN. She is chair of the nutrition subgroup for the National Program for Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Kirstine Farrer

Kirstine Farrer was the first consultant dietitian specialising in intestinal failure appointed in the UK in 2005. She has worked on the national intestinal failure unit for over twenty years and was the British Dietetic Association (BDA) representative on the NHS England commissioning panel for Severe Intestinal Failure. She continues to be the lead adult BDA representative of the NHS England HPN clinical advice and management  group. She lectures both nationally and internationally on intestinal failure, short bowel syndrome and HPN. Kirstine is part of the Salford education faculty which delivers the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Intestinal Failure Experts course. She is the deputy chair /secretary  on the British Intestinal Failure Alliance.  This is a specialist multi-professional group of the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. In 2018 Kirstine was awarded the British Dietetic Association Ibex award for  contribution to the profession within the field of nutritional support and intestinal failure.

Prof. Simon Lal

Clinical Director National Intestinal Failure Reference Centre, Salford Care Organisation & Professor of Gastroenterology University of Manchester. Clinical & Academic expertise in Intestinal Failure, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Clinical Nutrition. Co-Chair of ESPEN Home Artificial Nutrition & Chronic Intestinal Failure Special Interest Group & member of ESPEN Education Committee & UEG Scientific Committee. Co-author of multiple national & international guidelines in the field of Intestinal Failure.

Yvonne Hickey

Yvonne Hickey works as a Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Gastroenterolgy in St Vincent’s University Hospital. Current secretary of the INDI Gastroenterology Interest Group and the INDI Scientific and Research Steering Group. Have been involved in setting up the HPN Dietetic Peer Support group.

 

 

Naomi Bates

Naomi is Senior Dietitian in St Vincent’s University Hospital with over twenty years’ experience in colorectal surgery. Alongside her clinical duties she is a co-author of the Intestinal Failure Chapter of the INDI reference guide and a guest lecturer on IF for the UCD MSc in Nutrition and Dietetics course. She is passionate about patient centred care and enjoys the challenges that IF patients present.

Karen Slye

Karen Slye is a Clinical Specialist Dietitian at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. She has worked in the area of intestinal failure for the last 16years, initially in the NHS prior to returning to Ireland. She has a special interest in the area of parenteral nutrition and is very passionate about her work with patients on home parenteral nutrition. She has a strong interest in research and advanced practice, obtaining her advanced practice qualification from University of Limerick in 2022. 

Ms Arún Fenton

I am a Clinical Specialist Dietitian, I qualified in 2001 and I have worked in St. James’s for almost 23 years. 

I have been working as a dietitian in the area of medical oncology for the past 18 years.

I have discharged and managed over 100 patients with cancer on home (iv) parenteral nutrition and or home iv fluids and electrolytes.

I am a CORU registered dietitian, I am a member of INDI and IrSPEN .
